“Social Development” educates children and adolescents about the use of technology and cybersecurity awareness
The Ministry of Social Development and Family, represented by the Family Development Department, held a lecture entitled The Use of Technology and Cybersecurity Awareness from December 25-26 via the Microsoft Teams platform.
Dr. Rami Hamadeh, a cybersecurity consulting expert, presented the lecture that targeted children and adolescents from the following age groups: (8-12) and (13-18) years over two consecutive days while digital communications and online activities are increasing. It has become a duty to educate them about how to stay safe on the Internet through simple and comprehensive explanations, storytelling, and interactive activities.
The lecture aims to provide this segment with the basic knowledge and skills necessary for the safe use of the Internet, the importance of adhering to the rules of protection and safety, creating easy-to-remember passwords, and identifying malicious programs and how to protect their devices.
The objectives also touched on educating children and teenagers about the distinction between safe games and applications and the necessity of informing parents about the wrong behavior or harassment that may steal their data.
The doctor spoke about several topics during the lecture, including teaching children and adolescents’ digital protection skills to ensure their safety while interacting online and clarifying some crucial concepts for them, such as privacy and addressing cyber challenges, which contributes to building a generation capable of benefiting from the positives of the digital age in a safe and aware manner. Also, using a strong password and learning about malware and how to protect against it is the first barrier against people who may try to steal private information. Regarding communicating with others through games and social media, he stressed the importance of avoiding sharing their personal information with strangers.
He stated, “If you encounter bullying or bad behavior, you should inform your parents or an adult you trust. Internet should be a safe place for everyone, and you have the right to use it without fear.” He added: “You are the digital generation, and you have enough power to make a difference. You must use the Internet wisely and prevent harm to yourself and others by always being safe and responsible.”
The Ministry’s Family Development Department plays a vital role in developing the family, women, and children, raising awareness, and educating society about the rights of this group and the challenges raised on the global, regional, and local scene. The ministry also contributes to preparing national strategies and plans to discuss family, women, and children’s issues in coordination with governmental and non-governmental agencies.
