MSDF Partners with Al Kaaban Girls Center to Host Diverse Training Workshops
The Ministry of Social Development and Family (MSDF), in collaboration with Al Kaaban Girls Center, has organized a series of engaging training workshops for girls at the center.
The diverse workshops, led by Ms. Moza Al Mansouri, Senior Training Expert at the Ministry, included sessions on Polymer Clay Art, Grandma's Stitch (Cross-Stitch), and Incense Burner Decoration. These workshops were designed for girls aged 12 to 18.
The MSDF aims to develop various skills among young girls through these workshops, including manual and artistic abilities, and to foster creativity through activities like sewing, sculpting, drawing, and general handicrafts. The initiative also seeks to discover hidden talents, enhance teamwork, and boost self-confidence by showcasing the girls' artwork at the end of the workshops and honoring their achievements. Additionally, these sessions provide a safe and enjoyable environment for participants to forge new friendships outside of school while upholding strong values and ethics.
Regarding Grandma’s Stitch workshop, Ms. Moza Al Mansouri stated, "Grandma's Stitch, or cross-stitch embroidery, is an elegant and easily executed handcraft. It's one of the simplest and quickest embroidery techniques to learn, perfect for creating unique and sophisticated decorative items for homes or clothing." Tools used in this workshop included sewing and embroidery needles, colorful cotton and silk threads, embroidery hoops, linen or cotton embroidery fabric, small sharp scissors, and pins for securing materials.
In the Incense Burner Decoration workshop, girls learned how to transform plain incense burners into beautiful artistic pieces using simple tools. They decorated raw burners made of wood, ceramic, or plaster with acrylic and specialized wood/ceramic paints, and embellished them with beads, artificial pearls, or artificial flowers.
The Polymer Clay workshop taught girls how to create earrings, various heart-shaped pendants for necklaces, and diverse magnetic shapes. Participants utilized polymer clay, a small rolling pin for flattening the clay, sculpting tools (such as silicone tools), and cutters in various shapes like circles, hearts, and stars.
Ms. Fatima Al Nuaimi, Director of the Family Empowerment Department, commented, "MSDF plays a vital role in enhancing family stability and social cohesion by implementing strategic programs that contribute to achieving the social pillar of Qatar National Vision 2030. We work with both governmental and private social centers and institutions to organize events aimed at instilling values, discovering children's talents, and refining them in a safe and supportive environment that fosters creativity."
