MSDF Revives Heritage Through Al-Naflah Night Celebration

The Ministry of Social Development and Family, represented by the Family Empowerment Department, held a lively celebration of Al-Naflah Night, drawing a large crowd from the Northern Region. The event took place on Thursday, February 13, at the Ministry’s headquarters in Al-Shamal City.

This initiative aims to support and promote home-grown projects by partnering with relevant organizations. It also seeks to highlight the contributions of local entrepreneurs involved in these projects to various national events, empowering them economically. The focus is on developing their skills, providing diverse marketing opportunities, and encouraging local production, particularly the role of women in the economy.

The Family Empowerment Department is also committed to preserving Qatari heritage by reviving Al-Naflah Night, a cherished tradition observed annually on the 15th of Sha’ban. Historically, Qatari families would prepare and share traditional dishes like harees, aseeda, and luqaimat with their neighbors and those less fortunate, fostering a spirit of generosity in the lead-up to Ramadan.

Several home-grown projects showcased their creations at the event. One entrepreneur, specializing in handmade Sadu weaving, shared her story, explaining how she inherited her passion from her mother and later transformed it into a successful venture. “After losing my eyesight, I began sewing small items for my mother. Over time, I rediscovered my love for Sadu weaving, creating handcrafted dallah bags and other traditional pieces.”

Another participant, the founder of the home-cooking project Jidr & Malas, offered a fusion of traditional and modern cuisine. “My passion for cooking inspired me to launch this project in 2016. With the support of my family, I’ve been able to grow and share traditional Qatari flavors in a contemporary way.”

In a statement, Mrs. Fatima Al-Nuaimi, Director of the Family Empowerment Department, emphasized the event’s purpose: “We aim to revive Qatari heritage, instill it in younger generations, and support home-grown projects by providing economic opportunities and sustainable marketing platforms.”

The Ministry of Social Development and Family remains dedicated to empowering local entrepreneurs and their home-grown projects, ensuring their long-term success and contribution to the country’s economic and social development, in line with Qatar National Vision 2030.
