Qatar Showcases Sustainable Housing Experience at Third Gulf Housing Week in Kuwait
Kuwait, May 22, 2025 – The Ministry of Social Development and Family (MSDF) in Qatar is showcasing its experience in sustainable housing at the Third Gulf Housing Week, hosted by Kuwait from May 18 to 22, 2025. The event is held under the theme “Real Estate Development for Sustainable Housing.”
The Qatari delegation is led by the Minister of Social Development and Family, accompanied by Mr. Fahad Mohammed Al Khayarin, Assistant Undersecretary for Social Development Affairs, and a high-level delegation of ministry officials.
Qatar’s participation underscores its commitment to enhancing joint Gulf cooperation in housing and exchanging expertise in designing and developing innovative housing solutions. These efforts align with the aspirations of Gulf communities and support sustainable urban development strategies.
The event featured a comprehensive exhibition of housing projects and technological solutions, alongside specialized discussion panels and workshops. More than 14 experts and representatives from housing ministries across the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries participated.
Mr. Nasser Mehanna Al Rumaihi Al Manaei, Director of the Housing Department at the MSDF, moderated a panel discussion titled “Housing Challenges and Solutions in Gulf Countries.” The discussion addressed key issues facing the housing sector in the region, including rising costs, land availability, and the need to diversify financing tools. Al Manaei presented Qatar’s experience in tackling these challenges through flexible financing programs, such as direct financing, the demolition and rebuilding program, and the rent-to-own model. He also highlighted the development of legislative infrastructure and the encouragement of the private sector.
Ms. Amina Al Sheikh, representing the MSDF, participated in the panel discussion “Smart Technology and Its Impact on Housing.” She reviewed the ministry's efforts in leveraging digital transformation to develop housing services through the “Eskan” online platform. This platform offers 21 integrated digital services based on key pillars: ease of access, data protection, integration with government entities, and sustainability of operational processes. She also discussed plans to incorporate artificial intelligence and transition to direct electronic exchange between government agencies.
On the sidelines of the event, students from Qatar University’s College of Engineering (Civil Engineering) participated in a Gulf student hackathon aimed at presenting design solutions for sustainable housing projects. The Qatar University students distinguished themselves with innovative designs that prioritized energy efficiency, smart planning, and local materials, earning commendation from the judging panel and participants.
The Ministry of Social Development and Family affirmed that its participation in the Third Gulf Housing Week reflects its commitment to enhancing Gulf integration in housing and urban development. It also aims to present a pioneering Qatari model in adopting innovative and sustainable housing solutions, supporting Qatar National Vision 2030, and improving citizens' quality of life and family stability.
