MSDF Affirms Human Rights at the Core of Social Development to Ensure Sustainable, Inclusive Future
Assistant Undersecretary for Social Development Affairs at the Ministry of Social Development and Family, Fahd Mohammed Al Khayarin, affirmed that the State of Qatar considers human rights a fundamental pillar in its social development trajectory. He emphasized that development is neither complete nor sustainable unless individuals enjoy their rights and dignity. This statement was delivered during his address at the international symposium titled "Human Rights at the Heart of Social Development: Towards a Sustainable Future," organized by the National Human Rights Committee (NHRC) on the sidelines of the Second World Summit for Social Development.
Al Khayarin explained that in Qatar, the connection between human rights and social development is not merely an option, but a constitutional principle and an integral part of the nation's identity and future vision. He highlighted that the Qatar National Vision 2030 (QNV 2030) places human and social development at the forefront of its priorities.
He further detailed that the Ministry of Social Development and Family (MSDF) is working to embed this human-centered approach through three core pillars:
- Protection and Empowerment: This involves updating the social protection framework to ensure a dignified life for vulnerable groups, including the elderly and persons with disabilities, and other groups prioritized for care.
- Activating the Principle of Leaving No One Behind: This is achieved through programs focused on transitioning from traditional welfare care to empowerment and productivity, alongside supporting the social and solidarity economy.
- Strengthening Partnership with Civil Society: This crucial pillar involves empowering private and charitable organizations, ensuring they receive sustainable funding and logistical support, thereby recognizing them as a vital arm in achieving social justice.
Al Khayarin stressed that current global challenges necessitate the integration of the human rights framework into all stages of drafting, implementing, and evaluating social and economic policies. He called for the development of comprehensive measurement indicators that respect human dignity, securing sustainable and innovative funding for social programs, and boosting international cooperation to share expertise and best practices.
He concluded by stating that social development is an investment in human dignity, and guaranteeing rights for all is an investment in stability and shared prosperity. He affirmed Qatar's role as an effective and pivotal partner in international efforts aimed at promoting human rights and achieving social justice for a more equitable and inclusive future.
