"Social Development" participates in the opening of the Arab Symposium for People with Autism Spectrum in Tunis

On 1 and 2 March 2023, the Ministry of Social Development and Family participated in the Arab symposium entitled "Children with the autism spectrum between care and inclusion" in Tunisia. This was in cooperation with the Department of Development and Social Policy, the social affairs sector of the General Secretariat of the League of Arab States.

This symposium, which is part of the implementation of Council of Arab Ministers of Social Affairs Resolution No. 955 of 23 December 2021, aims to develop and promote programs for children with autism spectrum, starting with the development of the environment and society, the formation of capacity-building, social awareness, and the establishment of competent institutions. All the above would benefit this fragile group.
Moreover, it is an opportunity to share experiences among the Arab States in autism spectrum briefing, from specialized care methods, various therapeutic techniques, awards and evaluation tests, tools and working spaces, and ad hoc workshops. It is also concerned with the integration of this category and all the necessary preparation and awareness of families and society at large, assistance, legislative framework, and monitoring mechanisms.

The delegation of the State of Qatar was headed by Ms. Hind Abdullah Al-Sada, Director of the Legal Affairs Department, and Ms. Reem Al-Ajmi, Head of the Elderly and People with Disabilities Section. Mrs. Al-Sada also presented the speech of the Arab delegations on behalf of the President of the current session. She also reviewed the experience of Qatar in the field of disabled people, especially ones with autism, represented by the proposal for the International Day for Autism as a first in the United Nations in 2007, the launch of the National Plan for Autism, and the establishment of the Qatar Autism Society, stressing the readiness of Qatar to transfer this experience to Arab countries to benefit from it.
