Social Development organizes a workshop for home entrepreneurs

The Ministry of Social Development and Family, represented by the Department of Family Affairs, in cooperation with Qatar Chamber of Commerce, organized a workshop entitled "Outstanding participation and distinguished participants" attended by the members of productive families via Microsoft Teams platform. The workshop was facilitated by Ms. Noura Al-Olan, Director of the Research and Studies Department of Qatar Chamber of Commerce. The workshop aims at educating the members of productive families about the services provided by Qatar Chamber of Commerce to home entrepreneurs’ businesses, the participations that could be invested, the importance of being present in the Chamber's local and external exhibitions, and how to benefit from the activities of Qatar Chamber and invest them in the development of home project.

Ms. Noura Al-Olan has discussed on the workshop, the ways to support productive family groups, especially as it receives support and attention from the Chamber of Commerce towards the national product and home business, by promoting their products through exhibitions organized by Qatar Chamber of Commerce. the most notable was the exhibition entitled “Made in Qatar”, in addition to other exhibitions organized in partnership with concerned authorities in the country.

Ms. Noura Al-Olan indicated that Qatar Chamber of Commerce implements such seminars in order to support the productive families and home businesses, to familiarize them with the laws and regulations governing the work of this category, and communication with the concerned authorities in the country in order to overcome all difficulties and obstacles that face home businesses and facilitate their promotion.

Providing outlets

Ms. Noura Al-Olan stated that home business entrepreneurs are an integral part of the private sector and a true unit of small and medium industries, and the Qatar Chamber of Commerce serve as an interface between the owners of commercial outlets and the productive families with the aim of providing outlets to sell their products, such as the Old Market in Twar Mall Complex, where the Qatar Chamber and the Commercial Complex launched an initiative to provide spaces for home businesses products to support this category.

The Qatar Chamber of Commerce also contributes to encouraging business leaders and major Qatari companies to support small business owners, as in "Takatof" initiative which launched by the Chamber during the first precautionary measures against Covid-19. Ms Al-Olan highlighted the “Together” initiative which was launched by the Chamber in cooperation with Qatar University and Qatar Development Bank, to encourage and support entrepreneurs and owners of new and innovative ideas, technically and financially. It also launched the competition on the Best Creative Ideas, which supported five startup companies with creative ideas through this initiative.

Supporting productive families

Qatar Chamber of Commerce also participated in organizing a charitable market in “Basheer Al-Rahma” Festival in Ramadan 2017. The Chamber has also sponsored "Ahal Qatar Market" exhibition, which was organized by Hyatt Plaza Complex in 2017, with the participation of more than 30 home businesses. The Chamber provided the opportunity for productive families to participate in this exhibition to support productive families, local home businesses and crafts, by providing a display platform for home businesses to display a wide range of their products.

It is worth mentioning that Qatar Chamber was honored by receiving the Leading Institutions Award in the private sector due to its continuous support for productive families in Qatar, during the 17th honoring ceremony for the leading institutions, companies and projects in the field of labour and social affairs in the GCC during 2019.

Qatar Chamber of Commerce also affirms its endeavor to promote productive families and assist them in developing their products and displaying them in the local market and promoting them through exhibitions held in Qatar as well as abroad.

This workshop seeks to achieve the ministry’s vision towards directing the efforts of institutions concerned with women and the family economically, and encouraging them to become self-reliant, develop and implement projects to support and develop productive families through training and providing assisting services and areas for marketing the products of the productive families.
