"Social Development" celebrates World Cancer Day
On the eve of World Cancer Day, the Ministry of Social Development and Family, represented by the Department of Family Affairs, celebrated this day under the slogan "Health and Family" in cooperation with Qatar University, the National Center for Cancer Care and Research, and the Qatar Cancer Society. This workshop was held at Qatar University on the thirteenth of February 2023.
A workshop was held at Qatar University to inform the audience on this day, explaining the importance of the role of families and the environment in treating the patient, and raising awareness among students about the dangers of cancer, which poses a threat to the health of society. As a result, this workshop aims to take the necessary measures for cancer patients and provide all means of comfort that are available in Qatari society.
To enhance prevention methods, the Ministry of Social Development participated in this celebration due to its importance in society, stressing the need for early detection and motivating the general community to benefit from the services provided by medical personnel in ways of caution, prevention, and health education. This is also seen as a distinguished model in saving the lives of many individuals.
The Ministry also appreciated the efforts of the Qatar Cancer Society, the National Center for Cancer Care, and the medical cadres, which all work in community service, such as seeking care early. This, therefore, motivated beneficiaries to conduct early examinations, due to the importance of early examination in helping doctors to develop a treatment plan according to the stage that was discovered.
Moreover, the workshop aimed to introduce ways to prevent cancer, such as daily physical activities and a healthy lifestyle, which are the main factors in reducing its incidence. It also highlights the role of global health which provides programs that help to practice physical activity to maintain health and increases recovery chances.
Mr. Abdullah Al-Mulla, Director of the Student Activities Department at Qatar University, said about hosting this awareness workshop that they are pleased to organize the annual workshop, which aims to expand community awareness about the disease and its risks. Qatar University plays an important role in awareness, alongside the Qatar Cancer Society and the National Center for Cancer Care and Research, in raising patient awareness and health awareness aiming at reducing the number of injuries. Qatar University also works with its partners to unite efforts, spread awareness, and promote health.
