Social Counseling Official: Psychological Support Bolsters Family Stability Amid Current Crisis

Sabeeka Al-Naser, the Social Counseling Official at the Ministry of Social Development and Family (MSDF), affirmed that the Permanent Constitution of the State of Qatar stipulates that the family is the foundation of society, built upon religion, ethics, and patriotism. This reflects the central role the family occupies in maintaining social stability and cohesion, particularly under the current circumstances the country is witnessing.

In a statement to Qatar TV, Al-Naser explained that psychosocial support is one of the fundamental pillars for achieving emotional and social balance within the family. It significantly contributes to enhancing stability and the ability to adapt to crises, while also playing a vital role in reducing feelings of anxiety, depression, and stress. She added that a psychologically balanced family creates a safe environment that supports sound social upbringing, providing children with a profound sense of security and confidence.

Regarding the role of parents in fostering familial and social cohesion, she emphasized that the family represents the primary cornerstone for instilling values, providing psychosocial support, and strengthening feelings of national loyalty and belonging among children. She stressed the importance of parents acting as role models for their children, especially during times of crisis, by remaining calm and controlling their reactions, as children derive their behaviors and attitudes directly from their parents' actions.

Al-Naser also pointed out the necessity of exercising responsibility when sharing news, highlighting the importance of verifying official sources before circulating any information and teaching children that "the word is a trust." She further called for instilling the values of patience and gratitude in their hearts and reminding them of the blessings they enjoy, which helps alleviate anxiety and promotes a sense of tranquility.

Furthermore, she underscored the importance of empathy and social integration by checking on relatives, neighbors, and friends, even through a simple phone call. She explained that such communication contributes to relieving tension and strengthening social bonds. She cited a study by the Doha International Family Institute (DIFI) regarding the key strengths that help Qatari families remain resilient in the face of pressure and challenges, noting that one of the most prominent factors is the high level of flexibility Qatari families demonstrate when dealing with crises, alongside their reliance on effective dialogue and communication.

She concluded by stating that preserving customs and traditions serves as a source of strength for the Qatari family and can be utilized as a psychosocial support mechanism during difficult times. She affirmed that all these combined factors contribute to consolidating family cohesion and enhancing societal stability across various circumstances.
