The State of Qatar, represented by Her Excellency Buthaina bint Ali Al Jabr Al Nuaimi, Minister of Social Development and Family, took center stage at a high-level United Nations meeting to mark the 30th anniversary of the Fourth World Conference on Women. The event, held during the high-level week of the 80th UN General Assembly, provided a platform for Qatar to highlight its significant strides in gender equality and women's empowerment.
In her address, H.E. Minister Al Nuaimi emphasized Qatar's unwavering dedication to empowering women and girls and strengthening their role in the nation's journey toward sustainable development. She praised the meeting's theme, which focused on "Recommitting to the Implementation of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action." The Minister affirmed that the Beijing Declaration serves as a crucial blueprint for Qatar's national efforts, underscoring the high priority given to women's empowerment across legislative, regulatory, and political spheres.
The Minister also showcased Qatar's impressive achievements in this area. She noted that Qatar now leads the Arab world in female labor force participation, with a remarkable rate of 63.3%, according to 2024 World Bank statistics. Furthermore, the percentage of female university graduates has reached 67.5%, surpassing the global average. These figures underscore the success of Qatar’s policies in creating a supportive environment for women to thrive.
H.E. Al Nuaimi highlighted recent public policies aimed at helping women balance their professional and family lives. These initiatives include providing flexible work options and comprehensive maternity and childcare benefits. Additionally, the government is expanding its support for vulnerable groups, ensuring a more inclusive and equitable society for all.
Concluding her speech, H.E. Al Nuaimi called for urgent action on issues affecting women and vulnerable groups, especially in the face of ongoing humanitarian crises and conflicts. She specifically highlighted the deteriorating situation in the Gaza Strip, stressing the critical need for international protection mechanisms and strict adherence to international humanitarian law.
