Qatar Highlights 'Doha Political Declaration' as Roadmap for Global Social Development at UN 64th Session
The State of Qatar participated in the opening session of the 64th Session of the Commission for Social Development (CSocD64) in New York. The Qatari delegation was headed by Her Excellency Buthaina Bint Ali Al Jabr Al Nuaimi, Minister of Social Development and Family.
In her keynote address, Her Excellency noted that this session follows only a few months after the Second World Summit for Social Development, which was hosted by the State of Qatar in November 2025. She emphasized that the State has solidified its position as a leading global destination for international dialogue and cooperation. Her Excellency highlighted the summit’s significant success and the positive global resonance it garnered, noting that the "Doha Political Declaration" now serves as a vital roadmap for translating ambitious commitments into practical actions to achieve the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals.
Her Excellency affirmed that Qatar continues to make remarkable progress across all pillars of its National Vision, particularly in social development. She stressed that the family remains at the heart of social policies, alongside efforts to empower women, enhance the role of youth, and support persons with disabilities and the elderly. She also pointed to the launch of the Ministry of Social Development and Family’s National Strategy 2025–2030, themed "From Care to Empowerment," which aims to bolster community participation and expand the scope of social protection.
Regarding women's empowerment, Her Excellency touched upon key achievements, including the 2025 amendments to the Civil Human Resources Law. These updates expanded leave entitlements and supported work-family balance, contributing to a rise in women's labor force participation to over 63%, in addition to their leadership roles in decision-making positions and higher education institutions.
Furthermore, she underscored the importance of youth empowerment and their active participation in society. She drew attention to the issuance of Law No. 22 of 2025 regarding the rights of persons with disabilities, reflecting the State’s commitment to international standards. Her Excellency also announced the "Rawda Award" for excellence in social work, established to honor impactful social initiatives.
Her Excellency concluded her speech by reaffirming the State of Qatar’s unwavering support for the Palestinian cause, calling for strengthened international solidarity and cooperation to ensure sustainable and inclusive progress in social development at both national and international levels.
