MSDF Participates in a Panel on Policies and Inclusion for Persons with Disabilities
The Ministry of Social Development and Family, represented by the Community Care Department, participated in a panel discussion organized by Sidra Medicine in collaboration with Msheireb Museums titled "Different Abilities, Shared Future: Disability and Success." The Ministry was represented by Ms. Muna Ibrahim Al-Raisi, an expert in elderly and disability studies, during a dialogue session that brought together a distinguished group of speakers from various fields, including medicine, psychology, sociology, and information technology. During her participation, she addressed several important themes related to enhancing inclusion for persons with disabilities in the State of Qatar and the role of national policies in supporting them throughout different stages of life.
Ms. Muna Al-Raisi reviewed policies and inclusion initiatives, highlighting Qatar’s efforts to integrate persons with disabilities into society and noting the key policies that have had the greatest impact on supporting their rights and improving their quality of life. She also shed light on current national initiatives and projects available to persons with disabilities and their families in the fields of education, social services, and family support. Furthermore, she touched upon the most prominent existing challenges, particularly the service gaps for adolescents with disabilities as they transition into adulthood, emphasizing the importance of early planning for this sensitive stage. She also outlined priorities for the coming period to build a more inclusive society based on service development, enhanced coordination between entities, and empowering individuals with disabilities to participate actively in various aspects of life.
The session covered key topics including neurodevelopmental disorders, the importance of early diagnosis and evidence-based interventions, the role of inclusive learning environments, and the use of technology to support education and well-being. Additionally, it highlighted the importance of family and community engagement alongside state efforts to build long-term support systems. The participation of the Ministry of Social Development and Family reflects its commitment to supporting specialized national dialogues and promoting policies and practices that contribute to social inclusion and equal opportunities for persons with disabilities, in line with Qatar's vision and developmental goals. The session witnessed the participation of several prominent speakers, including Ms. Fatima Al-Saadi, CEO of the Shafallah Center; Professor Hilal Lashuel, Research, Development, and Innovation Advisor to the Chairperson of Qatar Foundation; and Dr. Dena Al-Thani, Associate Professor and Director of Interdisciplinary Programs at the College of Science and Engineering at Hamad Bin Khalifa University. The session was moderated by Ms. Hamda Al-Hitmi, founder of the Parents of Autism platform.
