The Ministry of Social Development and Family (MSDF), in cooperation with the Student Counseling Center at Qatar University, organised the ‘First Year of Marriage’ program.

The program will continue for two consecutive months and will end on October 21.

The ‘First Year of Marriage’ program aims to provide the necessary awareness to those who are going to get married and strengthen family ties through integrated training workshops.

The program consists of five workshops targeting males and females separately. It is a family program to prepare those going to get married, enhance family values, and create strong and positive family relationships.

The ‘First Year of Marriage’ program workshops were presented by Dr. Asmaa Al-Dosari and Dr. Latifa Al-Mughaisib. The program covered several topics, including the components of personal readiness for marriage, clarifying and developing the personal vision of marriage, choosing a life partner and testing compatibility, and the enablers of making the decision to get engaged. In addition to managing the engagement period and the provisions of the marriage contract.

A social consultant at MSDF Sabeeka Ahmed Al-Nasr, said: “The ‘First Year of Marriage’ is a pioneering family program in qualifying those who are going to get married and guiding newlyweds towards a stable and successful family life.”

The First Year of Marriage program aims to support the stability of emerging families, help newlyweds, and prepare them for married life by providing them with knowledge and experiences that develop their skills, support them in the selection process, marital communication, and provide them with awareness of how to deal with life’s challenges and problems.

The participating student will receive a certificate of attendance for the First Year of Marriage program at the end of the program.

Senior Student Counseling Specialist at the Student Counseling Center at Qatar University Fatima Haidar, expressed her happiness at hosting the “First Year of Marriage” program, which comes in line with Qatar National Vision 2030.

She stressed that the program represents an important step towards raising awareness of the importance of building a strong and stable family, noting that the family is a fundamental pillar in supporting the stability and development of society.

Haider said that the university is working hard to provide support and guidance to newlyweds to face life challenges and build family relationships based on affection and mercy. Nearly 200 female students from Qatar University participated in the program.

She thanked the Ministry of Social Development and Family, partners of Qatar University, for providing this vital program, stressing that joint cooperation enhances the efforts made to achieve the national goals of building a cohesive and stable society.

MSDF launched this program out of its keenness to maintain family cohesion in Qatari society. It is a multi-dimensional program that is primarily concerned with qualifying those who are going to get married and newlyweds to support and stabilize emerging families by providing them with the necessary family services to ensure a successful married life.

The Ministry pays great attention to the family, and works to protect and support it as the natural and basic unit in building society.

According to the strategic plan, MSDF is working to launch several initiatives and projects that enhance family cohesion in society.
