The Ministry of Social Development and Family Organizes Awareness Event Titled “Our Youth in the Service of Our Community” to Promote a Culture of Volunteering for the Elderly

Ministry of Social Development and Family, represented by the Department of Community Care, organized an awareness event titled “Our Youth in the Service of Our Community” in conjunction with the World Elder Abuse Awareness Day. The event took place at the Galleria Al Hazm Hall.

The event brought together a diverse range of participants from various segments of society, including a group of youth interested in volunteer work, as well as representatives from social and family-focused institutions.

This initiative is part of a series of programs implemented by the Ministry to strengthen social cohesion and deepen the spirit of giving among young people, particularly in elderly care and appreciation for their role in society. It reflects the Ministry’s holistic vision to empower individuals to contribute to their communities with awareness and responsibility, in alignment with Qatari societal values and the goals of Qatar National Vision 2030.

Dr. Abdulrahman Al-Harami, delivered an awareness lecture addressed several themes related to the importance of volunteering as both a moral and developmental driver. He emphasized the vital role of the elderly in the social fabric, highlighting the need for all segments of society, especially youth, to show special care for this group.

Dr. Al-Harami stressed that serving the elderly is not only a religious and moral obligation but also an act of gratitude toward a generation that has given much to the community. He added that involving youth in elderly care initiatives fosters a sense of responsibility and helps instill values of social belonging. He also noted the importance of making volunteering a sustainable culture rather than a temporary activity.

The event drew interactive engagement from participants who enriched the discussions on ways to promote volunteer work and proposed youth-led initiatives aimed at providing continuous support for the elderly across the country.

In this context, Ms Reem Al-Ajmi, Director of the Community Care Department at the Ministry of Social Development and Family, affirmed the Ministry’s belief in the vital role youth play in serving the community, especially in caring for the elderly.

This event aims to highlight the imperative role of youth in building a cohesive society. We are working to develop sustainable initiatives that combine youth volunteerism with service to the most vulnerable segments of the community.

The Ministry is committed to promoting a culture of volunteering and embedding it as a core part of the identity of the younger generation, in line with the objectives of Qatar National Vision 2030.

This event reflects the Ministry’s assurance to fostering a culture of compassion and social cohesion through practical initiatives that harness the energy of youth to serve those most in need. These initiatives also contribute to strengthening social solidarity as a foundation for building a prosperous society that balances material progress with genuine human values.
