Ministry of Social Development and family Launches “16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based violence” Campaign
The Ministry of Social Development and Family has announced the launch of its annual “16 Days of Activism Against Violence Against Women” campaign, organized by the Family Development Department in collaboration with the Women’s Leaders Center. The initiative aligns with the global campaign held every year to raise awareness about gender-based violence and highlight women’s rights.
Kicking off on November 25, the campaign coincides with the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women and will continue until December 10, which marks Human Rights Day. Various government entities, private institutions, and civil society organizations—along with human rights advocates and community activists—will take part in a series of events aimed at shedding light on all forms of violence and abuse against women and strengthening efforts to protect and empower them.
The campaign focuses on increasing public understanding of the physical, psychological, social, and economic impact of violence. It also emphasizes the importance of rejecting all forms of abuse and fostering a culture that protects women and girls. Activists will help women learn about their rights, available protection mechanism and the service offered by relevant institutions.
Ms. Nouf Al-Abdulla, Assistant Director of Family development department at the Ministry, explained that this year’s campaign is being implemented in collaboration with all relevant government and non-government entities. A comprehensive national calendar of events and activities has been prepared to guide the campaign, which focuses on protecting women and girls from all forms of violence and abuse. Several activities will address violence in the digital world, in line with the United Nations theme adopted this year: “Invest to prevent Violence Against Women and Girls” , echoing the message of the UN Secretary- General.
She highlighted that Qatar’s leadership has consistently placed women and family issues at the forefront, enabling women to assume leading roles across various sectors. This progress has positioned Qatar as a regional and global model in promoting women’s protection and empowerment.
Within this framework, the Ministry’s National Strategy for Social and Family Development emphasizes the importance of supporting women’s empowerment and enhancing their independence across all sectors, while ensuring their rights and strengthening their participation in society.
This is achieved through cooperation between government bodies and civil society organizations to help build a balanced and inclusive society—one that offers women equal opportunities to contribute to national development. The Ministry also encouraged the public to explore the national campaign calendar on its website and take part in the various activities planned for all segments of society.
